Alex Bruce
Alex Bruce is in his 13th year of teaching choir at Cy Creek HS (his 5th as head choir director). Under his direction, CCHS Choirs have earned numerous sweepstakes awards, 1st division ratings, and distinction awards. He is a sought after clinician and adjudicator in the Houston area and around the state. Outside of CCHS Choir, Mr. Bruce is the choir director at Foundry Church, directs Suono Chamber Choir, and is the Tenor Section Leader of Cantare Houston.
A product of CFISD, Mr. Bruce is a proud alumnus of Jersey Village HS, where he fell in love with choral music. He holds a Bachelors of Music Education from the University of Houston Moores School of Music. Mr. Bruce and his wife, Michael, met in JVHS Choir and live with their black lab/pit bull, Blue.
Ren Robertson
Ren Robertson is in her 13th year of teaching and her first teaching at Cy Creek High School. Previously, Ms. Robertson was the head choir director at Caney Creek High School, where her students received consistent superior and excellent ratings at UIL events, placements in competitions, and performed for local community events.
Ms. Robertson graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor’s of Music Education in 2014 and graduated from the University of North Texas with a Master’s degree in Music Education in 2024. Ms. Robertson lives with her dog, Garnet, and her cat, Jasper.
Meet Our Voice Teachers
Laura Lisk-McCallum, mezzo-soprano, is a native Houstonian and life-long singer. She was a high school student at HSPVA before receiving her Bachelor of Music from the University of Houston and her Master of Music from Louisiana State University.
Mrs. Lisk has sung all over the world, from choral competitions with the UH Moores School’s Concert Chorale in Germany to touring with the Christ Church Cathedral Choir through England, Scotland, and Ireland. She is currently a member of the Houston Grand Opera Chorus and looks forward to participating in the upcoming productions of Susannah and Aida. Past shows that she has participated in include Suor Angelica, Tannhäuser, Turandot, and The Flying Dutchman.
Other groups she has performed with include Bach Society Houston, Suono Chamber Choir, Mercury Orchestra Houston, and Cantare Houston. In addition to performing locally and maintaining her private voice studio, Mrs. Lisk is a music instructor at Lone Star College - University Park.
Fun fact about her is that she lived in Milan, Italy for a year after completing her undergraduate degree. She credits her time there for her love of Italian food and culture. Mrs. Lisk lives in Cypress, TX with her wife, Kirstie, and their dogs, Tally and Frodo.
